Stories From The Farm
2012 HAAS High Point ATH
by Brittany on 02/11/12
I found out a few days ago that all the hours of hard work I put in at the show earned me the High Point Amateur To Ride award. I received it in the mail today. I am so excited. I have never won a rider award before!
2012 Houston All Arabian Sport Horse Show
by Brittany on 01/24/12
Kamar Arabians went and conquered. We took 5 horses in total: Kahlidah Kamar Rou and Laziza Kamar from our own herd; Sotamms Serrhita and Kabiir Khayaal from Springmeadow Ranch, and PJS Pistol GTH from Sandstone Acres.
Kahli was shown in Sport Horse In Hand and Sport Horse Under Saddle and came away with Champion Sport Horse In Hand Mare and placed 5th in the Under Saddle Championship. This was her first under saddle show and she exceeded the expectations we had for her. She had never been ridden in a large arena with bleachers with people actively moving in them. Nor had she ever been in a ring with as many horses as there were.
Rhita went and showed in Sport Horse In Hand and placed right behind Kahli and brought home two seconds and Reserve Champion Sport Horse In Hand Mare.
Lizzie also went to show in Sport Horse In Hand and brought home two 3rd places behind Kahli and Rhita.
Phantom went and showed in Sport Horse Show Hack and brought home two firsts, a second, and a third.
Pistol brought home Champion Sport Horse In Hand Half-Arabian Gelding, along with several top placings in Sport Horse Under Saddle and Sport Horse Show Hack. Pistol also placed 3rd in the Sport Horse Under Saddle Championship!
We are very proud of our gang, horses, rider, grooms and all, and cannot wait to repeat it again at the LAHC Cowtown Classic in Fort Worth, Texas in March!
Wrapping up 2011
by Brittany on 12/06/11
Another year begins to come to a close with many things to celebrate here at Kamar Arabians. Kahli and Moulin both had a great year showing. Kahli is prepared to start her under saddle show career and both managed to win a few titles along the way.
Moulin nabbed herself a Reserve Champion behind Kahli in January, and since Kahli does not seem to like to share, Moulin will have to settle with that. Moulin did routinely place in the high 60's and 70's, and winning ribbons does just happen to be so relative.
Kahli, remember she does not seem to like to share, took home Champion once, 3 Reserve Champions, and a Regional Top 5. 5 top placings at 6 different shows!! Kahli also placed in the USEF Horse of the Year program, earning a Reserve Champion there as well in Region 9 Sport Horse.
Kahli is all set to begin her under saddle career next year in dressage and sport horse. She plans to continue dominating the competition and setting new personal bests for herself. The only thing holding her back in Training Level dressage is lack of strength, and with the first dressage show on her dossier not being until March, she will have plenty of time to come around.
The Merry Month of May
by Brittany on 05/30/11
May has come and gone, and it sure has been eventful! With two shows back to back, the girls experienced traveling and showing like never before!
First up, there was the Alamo Arabian Spring Fiesta in Boerne, Texas. Kahli got two seconds and she tied for Champion but lost the tie breaker, so we got another red ribbon. I'm not a crier, but that one made me cry. Moulin got herself two fifth places, and both girls set new personal high scores for themselves.
Secondly, the NEXT weekend, we were in Katy, Texas for the Spindletop Spring Arabian Horse Show showing some more Sport Horse In Hand classes, and there Kahli got a second and a third, also earning Reserve Champion at this show. Moulin brought home fourth and fifth places, and both girls beat their previous weekend's scores!! We can now say that both of them have earned scores in the 70's!!
For other news, Serr Sotamm+, the sire of both of my fillies, showed Third Level this weekend. He set two of his highest scores ever and earned 6 more points towards his Legion of Supreme Honor. Way to go, Sotamm!
The girls will have a well deserved rest when Brittany goes to Kentucky for a dog show for two weeks, and they will not show again until Regionals in July. Thanks to all those that have rooted the two little Babsons on!!
Aiming Higher
by Brittany on 04/16/11
So, we learned several things on Friday. Some fun, some disappointing.
We took Serra to the vet to see if anything might have possibly changed with her, and it had not. She still has tiny ovaries, and the vet told us to think of her as a pretty gelding. So, I am going to start training her under saddle, try and get her trail broke. If we can not find a VERY GOOD home for her, I may just keep her and turn her into a grand-kids horse. We have already begun to readjust the budget for such.
On a lighter side, we have been schooling both Kahli and Iris, one of Elaine's Anglo-Arab mares over jumps. Still just free-jumping, because I am not good enough at jumping yet myself, and I would prefer NOT to mess up the babies. Both have really wonderful form over the jumps, and both set new personal bests for themselves yesterday. Kahli jumped 2'3", an increase of 3 inches, and Iris jumped 2'4", an increase of 4 inches for herself. Not bad for their second day doing combination jumps either.
Kahli had seen single rail jumps, but it has been over a year since she last went over one, and Iris had never seen a single pole. I do not know the different names of all the jumps, so I had two poles about 2-3 feet apart and about 2 feet tall with a takeoff and landing pole since those really seem to help the babies. Once their form was developed, I added a second single pole about a stride after (they were already used to ground poles being there) asking them to lift themselves again. I started them with little cross-rails, and moved them up to their current bests yesterday. Once they start to master this combination, I may make the single pole a double and ask them to start stretching a second time.
Well, that's all for this go round. Until next time!
