Move In Day and Cowtown
by Brittany on 03/18/11
So Sunday, March 13th was Move In Day for Moon and Serra to the back pasture. It is finally done and they have a paddock to call their very own now! My dad built the fence for me and helped me finish out the inside of the existing shed that was back there.
I wish I had taken before and after pictures. The place was so run-over with bushes and falling down trees, that it is not even recognizable as the same area anymore!! There even was a little arbor and garden that had been hidden away because it had become so overgrown.
Friday, March 18th was show day in Cowtown. After taking all day Tuesday and Wednesday cleaning and prepping the horse trailer and clipping and bathing the horses (thank god my sister came out to help), we were finally ready to haul out Thursday morning. It takes about 5 hours to get from Waller to Fort Worth, and is the longest trailer ride either of the two girls had ever been on, and the longest I had ever pulled a trailer, but both the girls and I managed to make it.
Friday morning, my grandmother and I woke up at 5:30 so that we could get to the barn and feed by 6:15. I immediately set about to getting the horses groomed up; I like to start early so that I can be a little more leisurely and take my time. Well, 8 am rolled around and we made our way down to the show arena.
Back home in Houston, there are not many horses that show in Sport Horse in Hand. Well, apparently Fort Worth is NOT Houston. What would have taken an hour back home, was set to take 3 hours as per the schedule that had been posted. So, begrudgingly, I took Kahli back to her stall and tied her up. Both the mares were rather perturbed about standing in their stalls. I was perturbed about not having gotten to spend those three hours sleeping.
I went to watch some of the stallions and to root on my friends. Mah Sabbah Bedu was at the show with one of his owners, and got two 2nds. So to Sabbah and Keith, CONGRATULATIONS!!
Eventually, we did get around to showing the two girls, and Kahli walked away with a 2nd and 1st and ultimately Reserve Champion Sport Horse Mare In Hand. Moulin came in at 6th and 5th, but was only 2 points behind the leader in each class. Both girls had the best attitudes for the trying weekend they had, but are very excited about heading home tomorrow.
We are so proud of our girls and can not wait until the next time we get to take them out!!
